Branson Flood Benefit Show At The Branson Convention Center!




A Branson entertainer who lost his home to recent flooding is getting together with other national and Branson celebrities for a night of entertainment to raise funds for flood victims in the Branson Mo area!





Branson entertainer Dino Kartsonakis who had to evacuate his home in April due to flood water, will host the Branson Flood Benefit Dinner and Show which will be held at the Ballroom of the Branson Convention Center May 26, 2011 at 6:30 p.m.





Dino Kartsonakis said "the Branson Flood Benefit Show will feature Tony Orlando, Yakov Smirnoff, SIX, Buck Trent, Jim Stafford and the Lennon Sisters", plus I am expecting other celebrities to commit as well. It will be a lively entertaining evening in Branson Mo".





Branson Flood Benefit Show reservations are $125 per plate with tables seating up to 10 guests. Guests can also choose to give at higher levels and will receive a gift in exchange for their donation. The evening also includes a silent auction. Kartsonakis said money raised by the event will go to Christian Associates to help flood victims.

Table Rock Lake Dam Open 10 Floodgates Today!

Table Rock Lake is at is highest water level in years! After the highest water level ever recorded in Table Rock Lake just 3 weeks ago, five spillway gates are currently open at Table Rock Dam giving spectators a another water show. All 10 spillway gates opened Table Rock Lake Dam May 24 at 10:00 AM at Table Rock Dam to release water from recent rains and before the next round of rain arrives. Table Rock Dam is located on the White River in Southwestern Missouri eight miles upstream and Southwest of Branson, Missouri. Table Rock Lake extends 79 miles upstream along the White River and inundates areas in Missouri and Arkansas.

Table Rock Dam is 6423 feet long and consists of a concrete section 1602 feet long and two earth embankment sections having a length of 4821 feet. The dam rises 252 feet above the riverbed, contains 1,230,000 cubic yards of concrete and 3,320,000 cubic yards of embankment. Four 18 foot diameter penstocks convey water to four 50,000 kilowatt generating units in the powerhouse. The first two units were ready for generation of power in June 1959, and installation of units three and four was complete in August 1961.

Table Rock Lake provides a storage capacity of 3,462,000 acre-feet, of which 760,000 are for flood-control and 2,702,000 are for generation of power. The flood control storage is equivalent to a depth of 3.5 inches of water over the entire contributing drainage area above the dam, 4020 square miles. At the top of flood control pool the lake has a surface area of 52,300 acres and a shoreline of 857 miles. The full conservation pool covers an area of 43,100 acres and has a shoreline of 745 miles.

Norm & Trish Farnum have performed in the Branson MO area and around the country for many years. Their blend of bluegrass, gospel, old-time & western music has delighted audiences everywhere. These days Norm & Trish are joined by their three oldest children: Daniel on upright bass and harmonica, Benjamin on mandolin and guitar, and Hannah on fiddle. Additionally, their younger siblings, Nathaniel, Maggie & Matthew, are featured on select bluegrass, gospel and specialty songs. Nathaniel is occasionally featured with his washboard, and Maggie now occasionally joins her big sister on some twin fiddling!




Norm has been entertaining audiences with his 5-string Gibson Mastertone Banjo since 1977 when he became part of the cast of the Silver Dollar City Saloon Show and joined the ‘Marvel Cave’ band at Silver Dollar City. Through the years, he has played a variety of venues, including the Roy Clark Theatre in the early 80’s.




In the fall of 1986 he met Trish and discovered that she The following spring with their talents combined, they began a seven year run aboard the Lake Queen where they were featured on Breakfast & Supper Cruises. In the winter of 1990 they toured the Midwest performing over 150 school assembly programs. They have since continued their travels sharing their music from Oregon to Vermont.




Now performing with all of their children, the Farnum Family from Galean Missouri, continues to travel, sharing thei lively music in many venues including churches, festivals, school assemblies, special shows and concerts including nine stints at Silver Dollar City (one of their favorite local venues) for their Bluegrass & BBQ Festival, Southern Gospel Picnic and Festival of American Music!

Ozarks Spring Fiddle Convention!



The Ozark Fiddler’s Spring Convention is primarily a big Bluegrass jam session beginning on Thursday, May 19 and runs through Saturday May 21 at various locations at the Compton Ridge Campground just minutes from Branson, Mo. In case of bad weather many rooms and tents are available plus a large convention room are available for jam sessions.


The State of the Ozarks Fiddlers Convention was originally held at the Bob Walsh farm at Cape Fair, Missouri. Because of its popularity and growth and the need for more and better facilities, Bob moved it to Compton Ridge Campground just outside the town of Branson, Missouri where the event is held twice a year. Even though Bob is no longer with us, the fiddler's convention continues to be held the way he wanted.


We would like for fiddlers to register on Saturday, May 21 at the Gathering Place Convention Hall. Saturday we will have registered fiddlers in competition playing 3 tunes each on stage at the auditorium in the Gathering Place. Fiddling only, no other entertainment will be provided on the stage that day. Singing and other entertaining jam sessions will be continuous all over the Fiddle Convention site. Awards for the oldest, youngest, most improved and farthest traveled fiddlers performing on stage will be given. Also the Jam Fiddler Award will be given to the most outstanding all around jam fiddler on the site.


For your convenience we will have a concession stand in the Gathering Place serving lunch and supper. We will have a fish fry Friday evening at 5:00 p.m. and a Pig Roast with all the trimmings Saturday evening at 5:00 p.m. Fish Fry and Pig Roast tickets will be available at the office and the Gathering Place.


Visitors in the Branson area are invited to come and listen to the best bluegrass and traditional fiddling in the world performed by the top fiddlers and musicians from around the country. Admission is free! Free parking is available in the first parking lot to on the left at the entrance of the campground located on highway 248 across from The Wilderness Campground. If you don't have a campsite reserved please park in this lot. No overnight parking in parking lots will be permitted. No alcoholic beverages allowed.

Plumb Nellie Days Festival In Downtown Branson!




Historic Downtown Branson hosts the 51st Annual Plumb Nellie Days Festival May 20 & 21, 2011! This is one of the biggest festivals celebrating the Hillbilly, Hill-folk customs and the Hillbilly heritage in the Ozarks. This Branson spring festival includes homemade crafts, folk art, music, food, and fun for the whole family! The highlight is the Craft Show with over 150 exhibitors, held under two big tents in the heart of the historic Branson business district at the corner of North Commercial Street and Atlantic Street.


Fun for children is part of the action including old-fashioned games “on the street,” and clowns to entertain the young and old alike! Grownups can play old-fashioned games too including checkers and dominoes, this is very popular for the gentlemen who are waiting for their wives to finish shopping in downtown Branson’s 100 specialty stores. Many merchants will have sidewalk sales during the festival. Along with the craft show children and adults that have dogs will enjoy events designed just for them on Saturday. The Outrageous Dog Show begins at 10 a.m. (Registration is 9:30 – 10:00 a.m.) Divisions include "longest ears, cutest puppy, ugliest dog, most talented, shortest legs, most spots, best hillbilly dog, the best hair-do. The winner in each division will compete for "Best in Show." Ribbons and gifts will be awarded for all dogs entered. Entry forms for pre-registration are available at the Downtown Branson Main Street Association office, 122 College Street. The entry fee is $5.00 for a child with a dog, $5.00 for adult with dog. Proceeds go to the Lakes Area Not-for-Profit Council.



During the Plumb Nellie Days festival, Ozark country-style clothes in 1890s style or hillbilly attire are in order for visitors and participants. Put on a funny hat and be silly, you'll have plenty of company! Anyone who attempts to act dignified during this festival is usually the target of jokes. Be sure and mark your calendar for Plumb Nellie Days May 20 & 21.Craft Show entries are evaluated for originality, quality of materials, and source of the design. No commercial items, manufactured items or imported items are accepted, and no agents or consignments sales are permitted. Admission to the Plumb Nellie Days Festival is free to the public! Craft booths are open Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Food and soft drinks are available on the festival site.
