State of the Ozarks Fall Fiddle Convention

The State of the Ozarks Fiddlers Association Proudly Presents The Bob Walsh Memorial Fiddler's Convention! This convention was originally held at the Bob Walsh farm at Cape Fair, Missouri. Because of its popularity and growth and the need for more and better facilities, Bob moved it to Compton Ridge Campground where the event is held twice a year. Even though Bob is no longer with us, the fiddler's convention continues to be held the way he wanted.

This is primarily a big jam session beginning on Thursday, September 13th and runs through Saturday, September 15th at various locations at the campground. In case of bad weather there are many rooms inside plus a large convention room available for jam sessions. We would like for fiddlers to register on Saturday, September 17th at the Gathering Place Convention Hall. Saturday we will have registered fiddlers in competition playing 3 tunes each on stage at the auditorium in the Gathering Place. Fiddling only, no other entertainment will be provided on the stage that day. Singing and other entertaining jam sessions will be continuous all over the Fiddle Convention site. Awards for the oldest, youngest, most improved and farthest traveled fiddlers performing on stage will be given. Also the Jam Fiddler Award will be given to the most outstanding all around jam fiddler on the site.

For your convenience we will have a concession stand in the Gathering Place serving lunch and supper. We will have a Fish Fry, Friday evening at 5 p.m. and a Pig Roast with all the trimmings Saturday evening at 5 p.m. Fish Fry and Pig Roast tickets will be available at the office and the Gathering Place. Visitors to the Branson area are invited to come and listen to the best bluegrass and traditional fiddling in the world performed by the top fiddlers and musicians from around the country. Admission is free! Free parking is available in the first parking lot to on the left at the entrance of the campground located on highway 248 across from The Wilderness Campground. If you don't have a campsite reserved please park in this lot. Additional pay parking will be available when this lot is full. No overnight parking in parking lots will be permitted. No alcoholic beverages allowed.

We are proud the Fiddle is the Official Missouri State Musical Instrument in the state of Missouri and the Ozarks! Be sure to make plans to attend the State of the Ozarks Fiddlers Convention this fall in Branson to see the best fiddle players with bluegrass musicians from across the nation!

In Hometown U.S.A. is a sing along song!

In Hometown U.S.A. Song Lyrics

verse 1
You don't hear kids and laughter comin' from our park these days
And down at City Hall priorities have changed
The Welcome Wagon bears the sign sayin' strangers you don't belong
And yellow ribbons line the streets for the youth that are dead and gone

chorus
Hometown U.S.A. ain't like it used to be
There's bars on the windows and doors stay locked to keep out thieves
And brave souls go to work in fear cause their job ain't even safe
The good life we love is dying fast in Hometown U.S.A.

verse 2
The whole town feels unrest cause guns were found in school
A helpless baby died from child abuse
A drug lord bought his freedom and a killers rights go on
While the victims can't get justice and we're prisoners in our homes

chorus
Hometown U.S.A. ain't like it used to be
There's bars on the windows and doors stay locked to keep out thieves
Brave souls go to work in fear cause their job ain't even safe
The good life we love is dying fast in Hometown U.S.A.

tag
Why can't we pull together and turn this country 'round
So once again our kids can play in Hometown U.S.A.
Good Ole Hometown U.S.A.

In Hometown U.S.A. was written by Ray Sublett and Janet Sublett.
